Vision extends far beyond acuity, serving as a foundational system for survival, attention, learning, communication, spatial orientation, and a child’s ability to fully participate in daily occupations.
This 2-day course examines the critical role of vision in pediatric function through a practical, therapy–focused lens. Emphasis is placed on functional vision, near-vision triad skills, and ocular motor control; along with the impact of visual deficits on school performance, regulation, and participation.
Through video demonstrations and case-based learning, participants will learn to recognize red flags, assess key visual skills, and implement low-cost, immediately applicable intervention strategies for accommodation, binocular vision, fixation, saccades, and smooth pursuits. The course also provides guidance on activity grading, classroom accommodations, documentation, and collaboration with teachers and vision specialists.
Designed for pediatric therapists, this course bridges theory and practice to support confident identification and intervention for children with functional vision deficits in school-based and clinical settings.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this seminar, the participant will be able to…
Describe the role of vision, including its contributions to survival, attention, learning, communication, and spatiotemporal orientation.
Differentiate components of Skeffington Four Circle Model and identify how they support higher level visual efficiency skills such as saccades, pursuits, convergence, and accommodation.
Assess the relationship between ambient spatial processing, vision-vestibular-cervical interactions, and functional performance.
Analyze how deficits in accommodation, binocular vision, fixation, saccades, and pursuits impact classroom participation, reading, attention, and regulation.
Identify red flags and interpret assessment findings associated with near vision triad dysfunctions and eye movement deficits, including accommodation, convergence, fixation, saccades, and pursuits.
Administer and interpret clinical and standardized assessments related to visual efficiency and oculomotor performance.
Develop occupation-based intervention strategies and grading guidelines for remediation of near vision triad and oculomotor deficits using low-cost and functional therapeutic activities.
Implement collaborative, classroom-based modification strategies to support students with visual efficiency and oculomotor deficits through environmental adaptations, task modifications, and interdisciplinary communication with educators and caregivers.
