Primitive reflexes play an essential role in early childhood development. They lay the foundation for motor, sensory, and cognitive growth. However, when these reflexes are not integrated as expected, they can persist into later childhood, leading to challenges in many occupations including learning, self care, behavior, coordination, and self-regulation.
This course explores the critical role primitive reflexes play in development and how their retention can impact school-age children. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of common retained reflexes, learn to identify their signs, and discover evidence-based strategies to support children in overcoming these challenges. By addressing retained reflexes in the context of the educational setting, therapists can help unlock the full potential of the children they serve. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will have tools to effectively evaluate and treat children with functional delays due to primitive reflex retention. .
